As you are interviewing different drivers, you should ask them a few questions to screen them. Here are some of the questions to consider.
1. What References Do You Have?
If you're hiring a driver through a service, you don't particularly need to worry about references. You can simply look up reviews of the company to see how other travellers rank them. However, if you're hiring from a pool of individuals, you should get references. This helps to ensure both safety and quality.
2. What Type of Vehicle and Amenities Do You Offer?
Then, see what type of vehicle the driver uses. You need to make sure the vehicle will hold you and the rest of your party, and as you're paying for a driver, you may want to travel in style. Also, talk about amenities. Does the driver have refreshments, music or other amenities to offer you? This can be a great comparison point as you look at different personal drivers.
3. What Are Your Rates?
When discussing rates, make sure that you differentiate between driving and waiting. Some personal drivers charge different rates for these activities. If you're just hiring a driver for a one-off event, let them know about your needs and then get a quote related to that.
4. Do You Have Proof of Your Driving Record?
If you are reviewing ads and looking for a personal driver who works on a for-hire basis, you may want to see proof of their driving abilities. To that end, you may want to see their driving license as well as their record. Obviously, you don't want to hire a driver who has a lot of accidents or tickets in their wake.
5. Why Did You Become a Driver?
This question can be a launching point for a more detailed conversation. As prospective candidates tell you what they like about driving or why they decided to pursue this career, you can get a sense of whether or not you enjoy this individual. That can be important as you may be spending a lot of time together.
